Indian T20 League : History

The lucrative and highly sought-after Indian T20 League is a multi-franchise T20 competition based in India, played during March, April, and May. The inaugural edition of the league was held in 2008. In its 18th edition, this incredible league finally crowned Bengaluru as champions, as they lifted their maiden title after 18 long years of waiting. Indian T20 League Format

The competition will include ten teams segregated into two groups. In the group stage, teams from the same group play each other twice in a round-robin style. During the group stage, teams from various groups will only face once. Following the group stage, the top four teams in the points table advance to the play-offs. The playoff format differs from the direct knockout format.

Indian T20 League winners

Multiple teams have won the prestigious Ind T20 League trophy over the years. Regarded as one of the most competitive T20 Leagues, the winning team and its players are highly celebrated long after the tournament. With 5 joint title victories, Mumbai (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020) and Chennai (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023) are considered the best teams in the Indian T20 league. Hyderabad won the trophy twice (2009 as Deccan Chargers and 2016). Rajasthan won the inaugural edition of the league in 2008. Gujarat won the 2022 title in their first season of the league, whereas Kolkata have clinched the title on three occasions (2012, 2014, 2024). Bengaluru finally ended their drought and won their maiden title in 2025.
